Egyptian antiquities in the museums of Cairo and Luxor

Egyptian Antiquities in the Museums in Cairo and Luxor - In 1997 I spent many months in Egypt photographing the Egyptian Museum, the Luxor Museum and various archaeological sites. I had the support of the German archaeological mission and so I was able to shoot at some sites that are normally closed to the public. It was one of my most exciting projects and created a bond between me and that country. I returned to Egypt several times. I conducted a photography reportage on Coptic architecture and art, another on Islamic architecture. The archive contains more than 2,000 images relating to Egyptian art and architecture, including some of the masterpieces on display in the two main museums: Predynastic art, with the Idol sculpture, the diorite statue of Pharaoh Chephren, Tutankhamun’s death mask and some splendid objects found in his tomb, the naturalist portraits (typical of the Amarna period) of Akhenaten and of the beautiful Nefertiti, as well as the extremely refined schist statue of Thutmose III.
